I had a chance to sit down with Jesse Pischlar, a junior goaltender from Sudbury, ON Canada. Two great goaltenders have led Stout in the past two years with All-American Mike Stone and also Matt Koenig. Pischlar hopes to continue that for the next two seasons. The 6″0 goaltender has had two years to prepare for the starting job that he’ll likely earn at the start of 2009-2010.
Pischlar played most of his junior career with the Bowmanville Eagles in the OPJHL (Ontario Provincial Juinor Hockey League). He was actually drafted by the Sudbury Wolves (OHL). The OHL is Major Junior hockey and is considered the premiere route for players to find their way to the National Hockey League from Canada. Struggling with an injury and not making the roster after training camp, Pischlar headed south to Bowmanville. The OPJHL is a Tier-II Junior A league based in Ontario, Canada. While in Bowmanville Pischlar earned a 15-2-0-1 record with a 2.38 goals-against-average and a .896% save percentage.

So what does Jesse have to say?
Stouthockey.com: So what is your favorite NHL team?
Jesse Pischlar: Toronto Maple Leafs
Stouthockey.com: Who is your favorite professional goaltender?
Jesse Pischlar: I don’t watch a lot of hockey. However, I’d have to say Martin Brodeur or Partick Roy…those guys are/were absolutely phenomenal.
Stouthockey.com: How about DI Collegiate team?
Jesse Pischlar: Wisconsin Badgers
Stouthockey.com: What has been your best hockey moment so far in your career?
Jesse Pischlar: No doubt winning the Peter’s Cup at Superior. The combination of the support of our fans with the first playoff title in program history is unmatchable.
Stouthockey.com What is your favorite place to play in the NCHA conference?
Jesse Pischlar: At home, the atmosphere that our fans bring is inspirational. For an away match, I would say UWRF; their facility has a lot of class to it.
Stouthockey.com: Do you have any pre-game rituals or things you have to do before going on the ice?
Jesse Pischlar: I need to be sweating buckets before I get my gear on; so I’ll ride the bike, skip, or do some dynamic stretching.
Stouthockey.com: Do you have a favorite kind of leg pad & stick?
Jesse Pischlar: Yea, Vaughn Velocity series, I’ve been wearing that series since 2002. For a stick, I prefer the SherWood 9950 series with a heel curve.
Stouthockey.com:Favorite pre-game meal?
Jesse Pischlar: PASTA!!!
Stouthockey.com: You live most of the year in the United States now, what’s the funniest thing you’ve encountered while living here?
Jesse Pischlar: I could name a hundred thousand different things, but whenever people find out I’m from Canada they ask me one of the following:
1) Do you know so and so (like Canada is the size of their backyard)
2) Do you speak Canadian?
3) Do you get summer?
All three of those get me every time!
Stouthockey.com: What do you like to do when not playing hockey?
Jesse Pischlar: I like to listen to music as well as write music. I play guitar and also play in my own band here at Stout. We usually play at the Underground in the Memorial Student Center on Thursday nights for open mic.
Stouthockey.com: Favorite kind of guitar?
Jesse Pischlar: Ibanez
Stouthockey.com: What’s your favorite band?
Jesse Pischlar: Beneath The Massacre
Stouthockey.com: Toughest class so far at UW-Stout?
Jesse Pischlar:Circuits and Devices, it was a really brutal class with lots of math and abstract concepts. Definately tough.
Stouthockey.com: I’m sure the ladies are dying to know, boxers or briefs?
Jesse Pischlar: Boxer-briefs!
Stouthockey.com: Blondes or Brunettes?
Jesse Pischlar: Blondes
