Motz Earns WIAC Honors For 2nd Time

MENOMONIE (December 15, 2009) – For the second time this season, UW-Stout forward Scott Motz (Sr, Lake Elmo, Minn/Tartan) raked in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) hockey athlete of the week award.

Motz finished the weekend in which UW-Stout swept UW-River Falls, 6-1, 6-5, by scoring two goals and three assists.

In the 6-1 win over the Falcons on Dec. 11, Motz had an assist to Joel Gaulrapp in the second period, then scored the only even strength goal of the game with less than three minutes left in the game.

In a wild 6-5 win the following night, Motz had a hand in the first two goals of the game, giving Gaulrapp an assist on the opening goal of the game, then getting a power play goal to open the second period and give UW-Stout a 2-0 lead. Motz assisted on a power play goal in the third period to give the Blue Devils a 5-4 advantage.

On the season, Motz is tied with Derek Hanson for the scoring lead with 18 points. Motz has seven goals and 11 assists. For his career, Motz is currently third on the UW-Stout all-time scoring list. Hanson has the lead with 133 career points, while Glen LaChapelle, who Hanson passed two weeks ago, had 128 points in his career from 1970-73. Motz currently has 121 career points (47 goals, 74 assists).

Motz was earlier the WIAC athlete of the week, November 24.
