NORTHFIELD, Vt (November 27, 2009) – Norwich University scored six goal over the first 30 minutes of the game and went on to defeat UW-Stout, 9-1, in the opening round of the PrimeLink Northern Shootout Friday.
The Cadets (2-1) scored three goals in the first period, then tagged on three quick goals in the first 10 minutes of the second period, chasing Blue Devil (4-3-2) starter Tom Lescovich (Fr, Clifton Park, NY), and took a 8-0 lead into the second break of the night.
The host Cadets added another goal in the final period before Stout got their only offensive output of the night late in the third period to avert the shutout when Derek Hanson (Sr, Bemidji, Minn) scored with five minutes left to play. The goal pulls Hanson to within one point Glenn LaChappelle as the all-time leading Stout points leader.
Norwich outshot Stout, 53-14, on the evening.
Stout will play Middlebury College, Saturday, Nov. 28 at 4 p.m. (ET) in the consolation game. Middlebury is the defending tournament champion. Norwich will play SUNY-Plattsburgh, which defeated Middlebury 3-1, in the championship game.
